Best of the Year: 2017

The Academy Awards (Oscars) have revealed the nominees for the 2017 film season (here), with The Shape of Water leading the charge with a staggering 13 nominations. Blade Runner 2049 and Dunkirk find themselves duking it out for many of the technical awards, while Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and Lady Bird picked up at least two nominations each. The diversity this year is plentiful and for the most part, there’s very little to gripe about with the Academy’s choices. However, the Academy Awards these are not. These are Nick’s picks for the best of each category based on the films I saw this year. Foreign films are the only ones I missed this year, so that’s why the space is left blank. We’ll work our way down from technical awards up to Best Picture, with my personal picks are in Bold among the nominees. There may a few also be a few honorable mentions for the categories I felt were almost too close to call. Thank you, as always for reading my content and let me know what your picks would look like for this year!
